RvR and Combat Addons

Deft Contact List provides a list of enemy players, complete with health bars.  The information for an enemy will be added/updated when you mouse over them.  Author notes that it is buggy at the moment.

Disrupt Monitor keeps statistics on your spell disruptions.

Join Scenario auto-joins scenarios.

Trakario provides a small window to track the current holder of the flag/ball in scenarios, and tries to target that player if you click the window.

Fraco is “a simple DPS and HPS monitor.”

SquaredHotIndicators provides an upgrade to Squared’s HoT monitors, showing indicators for each individual HoT.

QQ DPS Meter is a single player DPS meter.

It’s good to be back.  My internet was out all last week, and that was a spot of fun.

So this week I’m going to cover all the mods from last week and this week.  To help make up for this, I’m going to skip the reviews for this week.

Tip of the Week

Evidently some people have seen performance upgrades by turning up certain graphics settings.

I actually didn’t do this myself, but I was inspired to try turning up my graphics “all the way”.  My original settings were 1024 * 768 on the lowest “performance” settings (except sight distance).  I changed them to 1600 * 1200 with the highest performance settings, and it was slower.  However, it wasn’t that much slower, and the game looks a thousand times better.  So I’ve decided to stick with the ramped up settings for now.

I’m hoping this means that there’s a lot of work to do on low-end performance.  My wife’s (new) laptop is having a bear of a time running WAR.

Question of the Week

Anyway, concerning the reviews, I have a question for you guys.  Usually I try to review new mods that came out that week.  Since they are so new, however, they often don’t work.  This actually makes reviewing really easy for me, but I’m also not showing you guys mods you can use.

So, which do you prefer: reviews of new mods (which will often be “it doesn’t work”), or reviews of slightly older mods that actually work?

So, the 1.01 patch broke a bunch of mods this week and made some other mods unnecessary. Inside we have forty-four new mods and an old mod.

Oh yeah, there are new assist mods this week. Yes, that’s right–if you don’t like any of the dozen existing assist mods, maybe this week you’ll get lucky.

TIPS OF THE WEEK

1. With WAR’s 1.01 patch, they added an auto-looting option and fixed the problem of chat windows repositioning at logon/logoff. So the AutoLoot and the StickyChatWindow mods should no longer be necessary. I’ll also note that evidently some people have been having trouble with Mythic’s autolooting and have stuck with the AutoLoot mod.
2. The Patch broke a lot of mods, so if it looks like a mod isn’t working, try downloading a new version. I know I had to update my Warhammer Scrolling Combat Text.

REVIEWED MODS

WaaaghBar

WaaaghBar is a bar mod for WAR; I’ve been waiting for this. If you aren’t familiar with bar mods, they provide a bar across the top of the screen and allow you to configure what appears on the bar. Right now, WaaaghBar can display gold, experience, influence, and renown.

It seems to need a little work. The current version does not hide or move the UI elements at the top of the screen, so everything overlaps and I can’t read anything.

It’s that time again. Last week was a busy week in the mod world, so today we’ll be looking at around 50 new mods and 2 old ones just for kicks. The Addon Spotlight this week is going to be Mail Addons, inspired by reader Joey, who said:

Every time I pay a visit to the mailbox, I find my sanity slipping farther and farther away. Are there any addons that make sending and receiving mail any less maddening?

You and me both, brother, so this week we’ll take a loot at several mail mods : Mail Cooldown, SendStuff, QuickMailTool, GetMail, and Mail Last.  Then we’ll review some of the new mods this week, including BuffThrottle, Warhammer Scrolling Combat Text, NPC Item Sale Price, and ClosetGoblin.  Finally, I’ll also go back in time (to last week) where I’ll date Michael J. Fox’s mom and review Mod Storage Bar and CombatMod via API.

Two quick housekeeping notes: first, I’m no longer going to list mods that are only on Curseforge but not Curse. I’m assuming that when the author wants it listed, they’ll put the mod on Curse. Second, I’m not going to talk about mods that are developer tools. Actually, I never have, but just a clarification.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Mythic has an interface for managing mods, but it is turned off by default. If you have libslash installed, (and if you have almost any mod you do) it provides access to this UI by either typing in /addon or /uimod.

I just figured this out on Saturday. I can’t believe I can write an addon column for four weeks and just now be figuring this stuff out. Anyway…

Welcome to the AddOn Roundup for September 14th through September 20th! We’re going to talk about 45 mods this week. That’s every new mod that week (though I cut it off mid-Saturday and roll those over), and we’re also going to talk about some older mods.

There’s also a new feature this week: the very first AddOn Spotlight, where I compare several similar mods. This week we’ll look at three Cultivation mods: PlantMe, Autoharvest, and FlowerPower.

Also new this week: I’m no longer going to review every mod. It’s just too much. Anyway, on to the mods!

Addon Spotlight : Cultivation Mods

PlantMe

PlantMe provides a simple little window that makes cultivating easier. It doesn’t perform any part of the cultivating task automatically; you’ll still need to click and select an item for every part of the task (plant, soil, water, nutrient). However, it can all be done from a tiny UI instead of requiring both your cultivation window and bags to be open.

CleanUnitFrames addon

Mods have paved new directions in MMO gameplay and feel, especially in WoW where certain mods were considered requirements and UIs completely transformed the standard. WAR allows modifications, but it’s far more restrictive in power currently. We are very early in the life of WAR, though, and so is the mod scene. I’ve downloaded and used a number of mods already with most being very good. So here are my recommendations amongst the mods currently available to the WAR scene:

AutoLoot by Aiiane: Automatically uses “Loot All” when looting a corpse, even when the modifier key is not held.

Does exactly what it says on the tin! Helps save an awful lot of time in PvE and RvR. No more will you miss out on those sparkly corpses, unless of course you don’t actually see them.

Welcome to the second Hammer of War Addon Roundup.  Last week I was just getting a feel for this whole addon writeup experience, but this week we’re really going to get things moving.

Now, my original goal was to cover every mod that was new or updated this week that I haven’t already covered, but that’s not going to happen as that’s something like 42 mods this week.  Instead we’re going to cover 20 mods (papa bear to last week’s mama bear 3 mods) and I’m going to try to answer reader mail.

Did You Know

That you don’t need to restart WAR (ala WoW) to reload new addons?  Just drop them in your addons folder and type ‘/reloadui’.  You probably all knew this because you are smart.  Me, I just figured it out today.  One hitch though: if you remove a unit mod in the same way, you’ll run into problems, as they’ll have hidden your regular unit frames, and /reloadui won’t fix that.  Easier to logout/login.

Greetings, and welcome to the very first Hammer of War AddOn Roundup. This will be a weekly column where I’ll talk about addons and sum up any interesting addon news.  Honestly, the news front is a little slow right now, with the game just ramping up and authors just now playing the game, so we’ll dispense with that for this week.

What I do want to talk about this week is the addon community as it stands now and three addons: Scrolling Combat Text, Approximate FPS, and Mechanic.

The Addon Community So Far

As far as I know, there’s only one WAR addon hosting site up and running at the moment, and that’s Curse.

A world without official forums scares and confuses me, but there are UI forums both on this website and on Warhammer Alliance with some discussion of addons.
